Today is the 46th anniversary of the first Earth Day. Despite decades of environmental activism making progress in areas of climate change, pollution, and environmental justice, we are now in an escalating climate catastrophe. The Trump administration has cut funding to clean energy, withdrawn from the UN Paris Agreement, gutted agencies that provide aid to those impacted by natural disasters, and has called climate change a “scam. Most other countries are pulling more than their weight in the fight against climate change. In contrast, the United States, the world’s biggest polluter, is aggressively reversing progress. We must change course to stop further damage.
