On July 4th this year, Donald Trump signed into law the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, a piece of fiscal and tax legislation that makes the largest cuts in US history to federal spending on social services, including healthcare and food assistance programs. In this bill, Medicaid funding will be cut by more than $1 trillion over the next decade, threatening hundreds of hospitals across the country, especially those that provide services to low-income and rural areas. SNAP benefits will also see a cut of almost $300 billion, about 30% of its current federal spending. Millions of homes will face some sort of cut in their assistance – 2 million children are expected to face substantial cuts or outright termination of their household’s assistance with this new budget.
In the same bill, the Department of Homeland Security received an increase of $165 billion. A good portion of funding is expected to be used for Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), with $45 billion towards building new detention centers and $14 billion for deportation operations. With the construction of new facilities, capacity is expected to nearly double from 56,000 to 100,000 detention beds, increasing the amount of people that ICE and CBP will be able to detain and giving more incentive for immigration raids. Just days ago, 90 federal troops and 17 military trucks conducted a large-scale raid at MacArthur Park in Los Angeles, where only a children’s summer camp and a health clinic were present. While it’s unclear whether or not anyone was detained, ICE and other violent military forces feel emboldened to display their power that they are able to enforce on immigrant communities.
This 18-year-old immigrant rights poster for a protest on International Workers Day recognizes the intensifying raids against immigrants as inherently linked to the struggles of all who face neglect and violence from the US government. This is particularly true for working class and low-income communities who often rely on the social services that are now being defunded with this new bill. Many immigrants, especially those that are being targeted in ICE raids, are vulnerable from their positions as street vendors, day laborers, or other forms of low wage, often exploitative work that they do to support their families and their basic needs. These recent immigration raids are not only racist and xenophobic, but are a direct threat to the livelihood of all working and vulnerable communities across the country. If left unchecked, this administration will only continue to ramp up its violence.
It is now more important than ever to realize that we are stronger together. When united against our common enemy, the people are the makers of history, and change will only happen through direct action. Stand in solidarity with your local communities and take action against immigration raids! ICE out of LA, ICE out of our communities!

This poster is a powerful reminder that attacks on Buckshot Roulette immigrants are tied to broader attacks on working-class and vulnerable communities. We must stand together, resist these injustices, and fight for a future where dignity and rights are protected for all.
