Hi! I'm Rebecca Liu, a recent grad from Pitzer College. As an Asian American Studies/ Media Studies major, I'm excited to be doing archival work at CSPG this summer. I picked this poster because I appreciate the work that the creators of this poster, Organization in Solidarity with the People of Africa, Asia, and Latin America (OSPAAAL) have done. I believe an internationalist approach to abolishing systems of oppression such as race/racism is necessary because of the ways in which these systems are deeply tied with colonialism/imperialism, neoliberalism, and capitalism.
Hello, my name is Haley Luisa Vallejo (she/her). I am a rising junior at Whittier College and an LA native. My major is Digital Media with a minor in marketing. I am this summer's Media and Design intern through the Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship program. I chose this poster because, even though it was made in the 80s, the words still ring true today, "Better the pain than to remain the same." A lot of people are afraid of the change that is being called for, but it is better to move forward than to stay within the same oppressive systems.
